Serena Williams heads into tonight’s final against German, Anglelique Kerber, aiming to win a staggering seventh Australian Open title and while some of you might be hoping for a new champion to be crowned, the American still has one more achievement to add to her illustrious CV.
The “CSS Slam” is a term that has been phrased for those that can win the Australian Open and US Open in the same year. As the official surface supplier of both these two tournaments that bookend the Grand Slam calendar, we did some research into the past winners of this illustrious award. There have only been three past winners of the CSS Slam, Mats Wilander in 1988, Roger Federer in 06,07,08 and Novak Djokovic in 11,15.
The somewhat surprising omission from that list is the 21-time Grand Slam winner, Williams, and although her focus today will just be on winning the final match of the Plexicushion Open, if she’s victorious we will all be eager to see if she can top her own “Serena Slam” and become the fourth winner of the coveted CSS Slam.
CSS is the official supplier of the Australian Open and US Open, supplying these Grand Slams with our Plexicushion and DecoTurf surfaces.
